FRIED GREEN TOMATOES

w/ Black-eyed Pea + Watermelon Salsa and Casear Chipotle Sauce

 

 

INGREDIENTS

 

Fried Green Tomatoes*

 

  • The SpiceSuite Brown Sugar Rub or your favorite The SpiceSuite blend

  • 2-3 Green Tomatoes

  • Egg

  • Buttermilk

  • ½ c All-purpose Flour  

  • ¼ c Cornmeal

  • 1 teaspoon Salt

  • 1 tsp Pepper 

 

*Vegans: Substitute liquid from canned chickpeas in place of eggs to make egg wash.

 

 

Caesar Chipotle Sauce

 

  • The SpiceSuite Mediterranean Blend 

  • The SpiceSuite Grapefruit Garlic Sea Salt

  • 1 c Real Mayonnaise or Vegan Mayo  

  • ¼ c  Fresh Lemon Juice

  • 2 tbsp Grated Parmesan Cheese or Vegan Parmesan Cheese 

  • 2 tbsp Spicy Brown Mustard

  • 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1 tsp Chipotle Peppers (in sauce)

  • Salt

  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper

 

 

Black-eyed Pea + Watermelon Salsa

 

  • The SpiceSuite Cajun Spice Blend

  • The SpiceSuite Classic Signature 

  • Fresh Watermelon

  • Cooked Black-eyed Peas

  • Your favorite salsa recipe :) 

 

 

DIRECTIONS

 

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, lemon juice, parmesan cheese, mustard, chipotle peppers, The SpiceSuite Mediterranean BlendThe SpiceSuite Grapefruit Garlic Sea Salt and Worcestershire sauce. Season to taste with salt and pepper then set aside.  

  2. Liberally season the black-eyed peas with The SpiceSuite Cajun Spice Blend and The SpiceSuite Classic Signature. 

  3. Toss together your favorite salsa recipe, fresh watermelon, and black-eyed peas. Refrigerate.

  4.  or The SpiceSuite Brown Sugar RubSlice green tomatoes ¼ inch thick and season liberally with your favorite The SpiceSuite blend 

  5. Combine egg and buttermilk in a small bowl and set aside.

  6. Combine ¼ cup all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl or pan.

  7. Dredge tomato slices in remaining ¼ cup flour, dip in egg mixture and then dredge in cornmeal mixture.

  8. Pre-heat your favorite The SpiceSuite olive oil blend in a cast iron skillet or non-stick pan 

  9. Once your oil is hot, adjust your heat to medium-high and add your tomatoes. Let them fry on one side until golden brown then flip. 

  10. Remove tomatoes from pan and place on fry rack to drain. 

  11. Stack your tomatoes on a plate. Serve with the caesar chipotle sauce and black-eyed pea + watermelon salsa and enjoy.
